I recently bought a Cal 33-2 and the Genoa track leaks. It appears they are mounted with screws thru the deck to a teak backing board, except for nuts & bolts for the aft five on the starboard track. Is that correct? John

I have a Cal 34-3 so I don't really know the answer to your boat. But, If the last 5 bolts (screws) had washers and nuts, then there was room for a backing plate. Backing plates are best made by using a sheet of stainless steel with holds drilled for the screws and then bolts on the other side of the backing plate. Backing plates not only prevent the fitting from pulling out of the deck, they also help prevent leaks. This is because the plate keeps the screw from sliding or wiggling. Over sized ss washers can also serve as a backing plate. The washers might take up more space (width) than the stainless steel plate. Use 5200 for calking.
