Question: when you turn the settee into a bed, you put a cushion on top of the table. Where does this cushion live when it isn’t being used? My boat came without cushions.

I cannot say for a 34-lll , but on the older Cal 34 we crewed on, the back rest cushions from the settee were used on top of the lowered table to make the double berth.

If you are going to do it yourself. Make sure and check out the Sailrite videos. They have a wealth of information available.

We have always had a long list of "to do" on our boats after purchase. Making cushions always was fairly low on the list. However for us the boat needs to be usable right away. Our method has been to buy closeout patio cushions till we could get around to new cushions on our list. These cushions were 120$ for all of them and have been getting us by.

P.S. the cabin looks quite differently now that I have put the teak back in and added new lighting.

Nice, that looks like it works well. I was thinking of doing the same for cockpit cushions. I haven’t found any for that good of a deal!

I made a v-berth cushion from a king size Ikea foam/memory foam mattress and it is ridiculously comfy. I had some foam left over and another mattress, so decided to make the rest of the cushions out of the same. A double size fits nicely on the port side. I cut it into an L shape, but the part that goes on the table only fits in the starboard aft quarter berth for now. Doing this on a budget and while it is not a high priority, I enjoy having a comfortable boat.

Looks like you are doing a first class job. I noticed your main support is currently a couple of 2x4s. When I replaced the beam of death we used treated 4x4s so we could use them in the yard when we were through. Good luck with your redo. It's so nice to see that we are not the only ambitious
Cal owners out there.
