Regina Prospect left the Jensen factory in 1970 and lived most of her life in the LA area. We got her in 2016 and brought her to San Diego. She serves our young family (Aimee, Eric, 2 kids 7 &9, and an old dog) well as a local cruiser around the San Diego area with regular longer trips up the coast and to Catalina. We even lived aboard her for 2 and a half months in the fall of 2018 when we were between houses!

Beautiful boat! I noticed a change in the Cove Stripe from Emerald Bay to the picture underway. Great to have someone so knowledgeable about sails on board.

Good eye! we went for a much more modern cove stripe that was closer to Cal 40 than Cal 20 (though I have nothing against Cal 20's as a previous National Champ in the class). Are you in Isthmus full time? We spent this past Thanksgiving in Cat Harbor when the Santa Ana came in.

The classic Cove stripe is beautiful and it really changes the appearance of your boat. In answer to your question : As we all know it was a rough year last year. When we named our current boat we knew it was probably going to be our last one. Hence the name Emerald Flash that last bit of green before the sun sets. I can honestly say that once this year I thought I saw a little color in our Western sky. Thankfully it was just a passing cloud. We had to give up our Mooring this year. Raising the kids sailing and at the island has made our children amazingly strong and self-reliant as it did for my wife and I and our parents before us.

It always pleases us to see other families sailing together. It brings families closer together when they share the exhilaration and maybe a little peril. Our children are in their thirties now but they still do everything in their power to join us on the boat. This last year was just a squall that has passed. I don't have another 20 years to wait for another mooring to come up but thankfully I am number one on the list for Cherry and number 7 for Emerald. And of course we don't need a mooring to visit. If you ask an old sailor a question be prepared, to an old sailor there is no such thing as a short answer.

On the subject of families... once I was at Little Current on Manitoulin Island in the North Channel, the magic place for Great Lakes sailors. Can't recall if it was on a fishing trip or via our local historic schooner, but there at the public dock was a Cal 25 or 28 with a family of 4 cruising. I admired their wooden boarding ladder, all shiny with varnish. One of the kids had made it and was very proud. It was evident that they were a happy and fortunate crew, even if a little squeezed-in by current standards. They were having fun. It was one of those things that helped me learn that you don't need perfect equipment or the best in order to have a good time. You can make do and have fun with what you have. My winter commuter bike that I rode to work on today (in the rain on Jan. 15, but that's another subject) is too small and very basic, but it has carried me to work in the winter for a decade with some small modifications (studded tires, fenders, lights, and a longer seatpost). It makes every workday start off well. Right above my computer here at work there's a photo of my Dad, brother, sister, and a friend sailing along in my other boat, probably taken 45 years ago. Family, boat, friends, fun.
