Anyone installed a Purasan (no holding tank) on a Cal 34-III? Looks like my boat was originally plumbed directly overboard from the head. I am not interested in adding a holding tank, vent, pump out deck access, hoses, smelly smells etc. I could put the Purasan under the sink in the head. I may cut out the cabinet a bit for better access. If you have one, where did you put it?

Nobody? OK, I'll be the first. Photo after hacking away at the cabinet to get the unit to fit inside. Will be removing top shelf and cutting back the bottom one more. Going to re-plumb the fresh water system with pex and install the Purasan where it sits in the photo. Going to need all that space for a vented loop, tablet dispenser, control unit and pex lines. Scheming new shower and faucet setup.. new outlet/new outlet location/remove outlet.. new light fixture needed, too. To be continued..

i’m going to be very curious as to the final result. Thanks for being a guinea pig. Out of curiosity what is your out-of-pocket cost so far? Keep up the good work.

Hi Capn Ken,

The Purasan EX was $1,691.74 at marinepartssource.com with free shipping. That was the best price I could find online.

Aquapex supplies have run me roughly $250 for the full boat including adding a dock water connection. Also cost me some busted knuckles from running the lines under the cabinetry and dark recesses of sharp fiberglass. I'm borrowing the pex expansion tool from a friend.

Other items for the Purasan install have been a vented loop, anti-vibration pads and a bit of hose. I'll have to run new wire for the electrical which is one reason why it is not installed yet.

I'm planning to buy a Raritan SeaEra QC fresh water head. I could re-use this old one, but would rather complete the install with a slick new head that integrates with the Purasan. The new head will be around $600.

Some progress photos. I received my new head today and got started on installing it. The old head was quite a pain to remove since the nuts were not easily accessible. I ended up cutting out the base with a Dremel to remove it. The new Raritan SeaEra QC toilet fit over two of the old bolts hiding them, and I'll cut the other one out later. Ran out of cutoff wheels.

This unit has the option to turn 90 degrees from the base. I did that for a cleaner install with the wiring and Aquapex fresh water connection. It came with a 90 degree discharge fitting, so I added that.

I ran two lines of 10-2 wire aft to the battery with a fuse for now. A new DC panel is on the list.

Since I opted for the Smart Touch Controller, I started wiring that too. It controls both the toilet and the Purasan treatment system together with the push of one button.

I added the freshwater Aquapex line that will go to the toilet.

Lots more to do, but it is getting close!

Beautifully done. A really first-class installation.

Thank you, Randy. I can't wait to see the head completely finished. Any idea what the purpose of that rectangle hole behind the head is? Storage space? It is useful access for wiring and plumbing, but I don't believe there was any of either back there originally.

I honestly don't know. On the 229 there is a similar hole at the base of that bulkhead where the plumbing came through to the head. There is no cabinet on the top of that bulkhead unlike the 34. With the cabinet in place that area would have no access and be totally sealed off. I would theorize that they put the hole there for hull inspection / storage. In the 229 I have put teak cabinet doors over areas like that just to make them look more finished and to give me a larger access hole.

I finished the install last week. It works great! Electric smart flush control button runs the whole flush and treat system. I still have to do a few more things in the head. I’m adding a dock water connection now so I don’t use up my fresh water while I’m in my slip, though the system doesn’t use much water.
