Ken is absolutely right. First get a scope and make sure you really need to replace the beam. I've seen plenty of 29s that have their beams in great shape. If the galvanized beam is rusted out then you can either fabricate one out of wood and fiberglass like I did , Total job was about 400 bucks 10 years ago. Or you can have a fabricator make one out of stainless . about 12 years ago the quote was about $1,200. However fabrication quotes can be all over the map I paid $150 for fabricating a chain plate and I spoke with a guy in Texas that was able to have it fabricated for 50 bucks. About 13 years ago I had a ballpark quote of between 3 ,000 and $3,500 for a swap out of the beam at a Long Beach yard . But that was a long time ago and prices and situations have changed . You should check out Richard Anderson's blog even though he did his job about 15 years ago. you could even email him to get more detailed information. He has a spec sheet on fabricating the beam. His site is Richardanderson.net, he's a good guy and has been very helpful to many of our group. His method of replacing involved gutting the boat, And is much more invasive than my method. So far I haven't seen any beam replacements that were as quick easy and cheap as my version. Good luck! And let us know how it goes.
