Physical limitations make it impractical for me to continue to sail my Cal 31, so I am looking for advice on the best way to sell the boat. (Where to advertise, broker, etc.) It is in good shape and well equipped. The boat is located near Annapolis.

Hi Harleigh,
Sorry that you have to sell your boat. I know a lot of people use Craigslist to sell boats. Also, you are welcome to post its specs and photos here: viewforum.php?f=8

Harleigh, I'm so sorry to hear that you are looking to part with your Cal. It's a natural part of the cycle of things, but I can only imagine how difficult a decision it must be.

My experience indicates that a good boat sell these days for far less than the owner thinks it's worth, which only adds to the pain. We sold our last boat through Craigslist, but I'd encourage you to look at Facebook Marketplace groups in the Annapolis area as well. Selling it yourself is a hassle as you have to be close enough to show it to prospective buyers, but it is unlikely that you'll find a broker willing to take it on unless it is as a personal favor.

My advice is to take lots of photos and give a reasonable asking price. Look around at other listings to get a sense of what the market is like. And tell everyone you know (as you have done with this list) that the boat is for sale. Your own personal network may turn out to be the most valuable resource.

Best wishes for a swift and successful sale,

Alfred
