After installing my anchor and anchor roller, I now have blocked out my normal port and starboard navigation lights! Is it legal to mount them on the bow pit or even practical?

Someone here can probably quote the regs on running lights. My CAL 35 originally HAD running lights mounted at the very front of the pulpit on a welded mount plate with wiring running internally through the tubing. Too vulnerable! I lost them once to a piling by miss-judging the length of the boat by 1/2" and once to another boat (not my fault). Then I installed replacements on the deck where they've lived happily ever after.
