Thought I'd forward to the new list to see if Tom or any body else had any replacement part/model number(s). It's SEV Marchal, 35 Amp, single 2" foot, 3/8" drivebelt off a 1979 Volvo Penta MD7A, and I'd like to replace with 70-80 Amp one I can get at an auto parts store. Thanks... -----Forwarded Message----- From: John Stacklyn Sent: Oct 30, 2005 3:41 PM To: Cal Subject: Re: [cal] Alternator Replacement Question (Tom V.) Tom, Thanks very much. I'm having a little trouble with my local auto parts store because they can't find anything without a auto make, model, year. I have found a lot of info on the web on the Leece-Neville ones, do you have any part number that would help? Also, is a 100 amp one too much for my 3/8" drive belt? My preference would be a 100 amp Leece-Neville, (L-N). You can modify the bottom bracket by turning a spacer or using several washers. It is very important to assure perfect alignment of the pulleys. I have used a internally regulated L-N's on my Perkins 4-236 and on my Yanmar genset since 1989, over 6,000 hours on the genset and 3,500 hours on the Perkins. No problems, yet, but I carry a spare just in case. These large L-N's are the type used on large trucks, ambulances, fire engines and police cars, so they are stout and well built. My local NAPA store has them, rebuilt for less than $200. I do not like the, supposed "marine type" souped up, small frame alternators like Balmar. They do not dissipate the heat adequately in a small engine room, so are short lived. Hope this helps. Try Master Mechanic Mfg Co., Dept BH-05, 970 Campus Dr., Mundelein, IL 60060, 1-800-877-8350. They have a 100 Amp, "remanufactured" alternator advertised in the latest issue of "Boats and Harbors" for $119.95. negative ground, single wire hook up, new diodes, bearings, brushes, regulator and custom wound stator. Complete with fan, pulley and instalation instructions. Item # BH805 They also have a 145 Amp for $219.00 I have never traded with this firm, but have been seeing their ads in B & H for years. Your mileage may vary. It is finally raining so I can do some additional research on the Leece Neville alternators I use. I am a regular and have a business account at our local NAPA, so they are willing to help. Tom Vandiver Start your day with Yahoo! - Make it your home page! http://www.yahoo.com/r/hs
