We just have a pair of inexpensive Rule pumps. Nothing fancy. Nothing too
reliable, either, unfortunately. (The main problem is that they tend not to
turn off automatically all the time.) We do have check valves above the
pumps, so that the back wash doesn't cause them to start up again.

Mike and Alfred,
Ok since reading the last email I have decided to leave the sump
alone and put a pump in. I didnt think I could do this before
because I did not think the pump could either pick up and push water
the 4 ft needed. What type of pump are you guys using. I have a
manual whale pump that I could rerun its hose to the sump I know
that would pick it up. I also have a Rule 2000 gph in the shallow
bilge.

What is the size of the output line from the Rule bilge pumps and what brand
or type of check valve did you put on there? I've had the "won't shut off
all the time" problem with my Rules too. Can you give us more details in how
you setit all up?
Thanks, Alfred.
