If you are choosing between gifts, disposables and keepers, I would catagorize the WM knife as disposable (unless they improved them lately.) They were nay Scottish, if you know what I mean.

(Finally took the Puffin out on Spa Creek and spoke several boats from Maine and Canada, waiting to go south after the hurricane season. Puffin, being a handsome Maine-built sailing dinghy, makes a great conversation starter.)

Unfortunately because of time constraints and the language barrier I had to just leave without resolution. And it didnt occur to me to leave him my address in the US, but I'm sure that if I had produced the padded envelope and a few euros he would have mailed it to me. Then again, the few euros would have been more than the cost of the eBay disposables...

I do like the idea of carrying a pre-stamped envelope
aboard for when I accidentally forget to pack the spare thermonuclear
warhead in my checked bags.

I have owned 2 WM knifes, the first was REALLY good so I bought a
second and it was crap. I recently bought a Merchim knife at WM and
am really happy(of course the WM knife was 20 bucks and the Merchim
was 50, I guess I got what I paid for).

When the knives arrived yesterday, what I thought was a West Marine knife,
turned out to be a really slick Kershaw rigging knife, so I won't have to
find out if the new W-M knives are garbage or not! Got lucky, I guess. I
can't find the exact one on the Internet, but it has one of those doohickeys
you use to open a shackle as well as a can opener type blade, a regular
blade and a really solid marlinspike. Nice!
