Re: [Cal_Boats] 9.2 keel bolts, the good the bad the ugly (Mike)
When we went from the A-4 to the Yanmar 3GM30FV, we thought of making some
sort of adaptor angle aluminum pieces to the existing stringers...we ended up
deciding to cut out the original stringers, grind down the pan to clean glass
and build new stringers specifically designed for the new engine. It made for
a much more solid mounting structure, and means we have much less likelyhood
of engine/shaft misalignment issues. The new stringers are actually stronger
than the originals, and with the addition of the new exhaust and Sounddown
(SP?) in the engine compartment the diesel is actually quieter in the cockpit
than the gas engine was. I should point out that the stringers were made and
installed by someone who actually knew what they were doing-not me!
