As an experiment, I have posted some photos on a Yahoo personal album. I think you find it by my user name above. I posted an album from the restoration of the Cal 40, including a pic of the engine mounts and the shaft log. I also posted some old pics in another album from the 1981 Transpac when I was much younger and better looking. Somebody let me know if you can find them. I have just joined this group. Out of nostalgia most probably. I owned Cal 40 #91 during the 90's. Did much rework as well. Also put in a Yanmar diesel. Looking at the old engine beds takes me back to a time that was really itchy and goo-y !! I Cut the old beds out and rebuilt to suit the new egine also. At the time I was a yacht carpenter and had many assistants from the marine industry. Time and events prompted me to sell Strumpet. I sold it sight unseen, no survey, and the money was wire transferred to my account before the owners stepped on deck !!!! That should help you understand the true value of your boat. No doubt this group and its members will bring back many memories- most of them good. I'm also writing a history of the Cal 40 when time permits. Last September I spent a few hours at Mystic Seaport library reading old Bermuda Race entries and crew lists. I'm trying to collect histories on all the boats I can find. I have old owner lists from the 70s. Some day I'm going to get organized and send a questionnaire to everyone on my list asking for photos and stories. I've tracked down boats in Brazil and Germany and South Africa. Rog has read a draft of the manuscript and I'm waiting for him to add to it :) A couple of weeks ago I heard from TV Learson's daughter. He won the 1966 Bermuda Race with Thunderbird. He was president of IBM at the time and he beat his boss Tom Watson who was Chairman of IBM and finished third. Watson, of course, had a custom Sparkman and Stephens yacht with Olin aboard.
