it's snowing here; winterizing tips for live-aboards please

jeribelle20002005-12-02 00:26
Hi all, Well, the snow has hit here in Anacortes. I have turned off the water to the hose that leads into the sailboat we're living on right now, and the hose is opened up to allow any water left to trickle into the bilge, which I can pump out. This morning I picked up a plunger to work on my sink drains, as both are plugged tight, leaving me without running water. I got one unplugged, and will work on the one in the head in a bit. It is just too cold for the 2 heaters to keep up, with the water being around 50 degrees, and the air temperature expected to go into the 20s tonight. So I closed off the forward v-berth cabin to conserve heat, and am running both heaters for the main cabin and head, where I'll be for the next few days. I got all items out of the dock box and into the boat that might be affected by freezing. The Morgan (future digs) is heated by an electric heater on low, with the water heater inside, and the incoming water is off, so it should be ok, I think. Anybody have any ideas of other things that might need attention, please help me out. I'm doing this on the fly, as DH is in the air right now, out of town, and I've never done this before. girlsaylor

John, Thank you, and yes it helps me try to prevent damage while living aboard. As the Cal is up for sale and will have to be winterized when we move onto the Morgan, unless a miracle sale happens quickly, I've got one live aboard vessel to attend to and one on the hard to tend to. We're looking at possible job relocation, and I would have to tend to both boats and follow when done here. If we have to truck the Morgan again, I'll be winterizing it alone and arranging the trucking, with Dudley once again. So, it's kinda mind-boggling, being faced with winterizing the Cal and getting it delivered to the broker on the other side of the island here. Anyhow, I'll be readying the Cal to show to a prospective buyer today, then head over to the Morgan with a load of stuff that doesn't get sold with the Cal. girlsaylor --- In Ca… [at] yahoogroups.com, John Mallon <bmajecllc@y...> wrote: > > Hi, > > I'm not sure this will be of help as it the check list developed for laying up our particular boat which we are not living on.
