We chose to use mineral oil instead of water. No critter growth or bad
smells. And presumably will be easier to change out the transducer than if
we had mounted it to the hull with a gob of caulk, as some have done.

I had a depth sounder transducer in mineral oil in the Cal 34. It
worked fine although it was not a sophisticated "fish finer" type. It
was in a box glassed to the hull in the head, as I recall.

Never shirking away from having to use a grinder to undo anything, I applied
my depth transducer puck with a gently mixed bubble-free layer of epoxy. I
built a damn to contain it, wet out the puck and sat it gently in place. It
reads depths to 400-500' depending on a variety of factors that I haven't
noted and don't care about.
I've never much noticed depths below 90 to 100', which is what I would call
being "in soundings" for local conditions. I tacked inside the Red buoy
coming into the harbor under sail a couple of weeks ago.... The jump from
20' to 8' in half a boats length was a bit of a lesson in prudence. Amazing
how quickly you can tack a boat with your pride at stake.

My water box had 2 tablespoons of bleach and was used for 2years no problem
till the boat was hauled and done right. So whatever you chooose silcone, mineral oil, ect it could fill in till haul out time.
Do any of you Cal owners have the Faryman A30 would to ask about prop size.
And injector pump governor rebuild or diagnose.
Thanks
