sagging cabin top
I don't know the layout of the Cal 30 but the Cal 40 was designed to have a post that
supported the cabin top and the aft end of the table. It was butted onto the cabin sole with a
teak plate that is a bear to remove when redoing the interior. There is a second post at the
forward end of the original table. Lots of boats have removed the table and some have kept
the aft post, some not. My cabin top sags about an inch with weight so I will replace the post
and table but I may also shore up the cabin top with some foam/epoxy reenforcement. I
probably have some old glass and plywood that isn't as strong as it was in 1969.
I wouldn't worry about transferring the load as the cabin sole is probably strong enough to
support it. Some of the flat tops have replaced the plywood that is getting old and may have
rot. If the post will fit the layout, that would probably be very strong. The Yankee 30 had a
post that was a handy hand hold. It was attached to the forward half-bulkhead of the galley,
as I recall.
These are old boats and lots of reasons for sag exist.
