Tom -
The Cal 25 Bravura album I see indicates that it is empty. Am I (as usual)
doing something stupid?

Roger:
Tom mistakenly put it in the cal 35 windsong album. You will find it there

Thanks for the re-direction, Ms. Janet!
BTW it was very nice of you to email me with your New Orleans report. Was
most pleasing to learn that your animals are okay, as well, of course as
your home. Sad to read of your great old tree, though, at least it's hanging
in there. It was also interesting to read your rhetorical query wondering
about how it is possible we can get money and aid to distant places like the
Indian Ocean littoral and to Pakistan, and not within our own homeland. You
are right, many if not most of your former fellow citizens and the small
businesses that supported them probably won't return until they feel safe in
the face of major storms and the potential for more levy breaks.
New Orleans has long been a favorite of ours. I consulted extensively for
the Army Corps of Engineers Waterways Experiment Station in Vicksburg during
the 90's and had to pass through New Orleans traveling each way, first from
our home in Hawaii and later from our home here in the mountains. Always
tried to overnight and to stop at the Southern Yacht Club going in or out.
It will be greatly missed. Many of my other friends from New Orleans have
now relocated all over the country in what may well be America's third great
diaspora in a century, after those of the Dust Bowl and World War II. Most
tell me they won't return.
Being a perennial optimist, though, it is my belief that something new and
better will rise from the muck and devastation, a New Orleans not reborn in
its former image, but a new and brighter one. We can all help that happen by
asking our federal representatives to aid your city financially and by
pitching in ourselves to support the effort in whatever ways we can. New
Orleans should not be forgotten, but seen as an opportunity for Americans to
show the world that we take care of our own, as well as others who face
building new lives and a new world for their children. New Orleans, like the
World Trade Center, should become a beacon of the American spirit of courage
and re-dedication. New Orleans can and should become America's Paris, a new
City of Light.
The pics of Tom enjoying a sail on Bravura were great! Your boat has found a
terrific new home. Sure hope your NEW boat gets repaired soon and that you
are back out on the Lake enjoying the beauty and solitude of sailing. We
all need these moments of tranquility that Tom described so beautifully in
his missive to our list.
It's great to have your voice back on the list and part of our extended
family.
All my best for a 2006 that is much better for you and all those along the
Gulf Coast than was last year. Happy New Year.
