Tom, Tried your www.bshmarine and nothing came up ?? Please advise. Thanks, Nick From: "Tom Vandiver" <bs… [at] yahoo.com> Hi Cal Folks, The last few days here in Pensacola have been perfect, 5 - 15 knots of breeze, low 70's, clear, sunny skies. After our Cal 25 sail last week, we are once again stoked, ready for more sailing. Since family health issues prevent us cruising off on our Cal 46 for a while, days sails on Bravura our Cal 25, (Thanks Janet) have become a perfect release. I rigged a jib downhaul, small line from a block by the tack, through the hoist cringle, back to the tack, other end led through two small fairlead blocks back to the cockpit, so I can douse the jib and retain it on deck without leaving the cockpit. Seems Mr. Arthur Ritis, my enemy has attacked my knees as well as my hands. This jib downhaul works great and allows me to get back into the Bayou's calm waters before going on the foredeck. Now we just need a young, strong foredeck person with a good atitude for this racing season. Anyway, back to the "more time to sail" issue. Since retiring May 1988, we have enjoyed about six years of cruising in Satori, our Cal 46 and will do more in the future. While we have been hanging out at our Bayou Chico home/dock I have taken on some boat engine and transmission repair, which I really enjoy and it buys more toys. The hurricanes of the last two years took too much of our time, but provided me with many more engines to repair. But, "Mr. Arthur Ritis" seems to be winning and after a day of engine work, mostly looking for things I have dropped, I have decided to reduce the inventory. With some help, I have developed a website, www.bshmarine.com, and am trying to market as is items. Hopefully, more time for sailing! The universe reminds me of my relative importance

Well, today it was off to the boat for some repair on the canvas (dodger and bimini and curtains, etc.) and a little day sail or two - about a two hundred mile drive each way. Got Waffles, one of our Gordon Setters, loaded the Jeep and we set off. Got six miles to the town of Verdi and stopped to see boat builder Jim Betts. Got back to the Jeep after a brief visit at Jim's factory (he wasn't there - up in Anacortes at his other plant) and the Jeep smelled like duck excrement. Yup. Like so many dogs, Waffles can't keep from eating the wrong stuff. She smelled pretty rank. But then I looked around the Jeep. Yup. Waffles had barfed, but only a little, so I cleaned it up. Put towels and rugs over the seats in my nice new Jeep, and off we went. The towels were, you know, just in case. After all, Waffles wasn't smelling very good. Between Verdi and Truckee, about 20 miles of spectacular mountain driving on I-80, I stopped twice to clean up more. So, I turned around at Truckee, cleaned up another barfy smelly mess (down to one towel by now) and headed home. Almost made it before the pooper problem started. Naturally on the freeway, in the heart of Reno traffic. Opened all the windows. Made it home. Killed the dog. Cleaned everything up for about four hours. Made for a nice day. Sailing would have been a lot better, though. Will try again on Monday. Aarrgghh! \Rog Cal 29+ #1 Swiss Navy Cal 2-30 #77 St. Lori's Comet

ROFL!! As a previous owner of Gordon Setters (several - 'cause you can't own just one), your little story brought back... oh, so many memories! It was a nice day - but hardly any wind on the Bay, so the sailing would have been real slow. Still hoping to hook up with you for lunch - possibly next week. Rog, How's Waffles? Probably not fun for the pooch either! I had a friend with two Gordon's and they were wonderful. I have dog envy since I am too busy to keep one. Thanks for asking, Kevin. Waffles is fine, though much chastened. Macaroni, Jelly, Moonshine (the Scotty) and Buford (the Springer) are jealous that she got to have so much fun - little do they know. Next time, Macaroni gets to go. Waffles can stay home for a while. It's colder than the dickens here, so I am eager to get down to the boat for a bit of work and a day sail.
