Cal Database
Neil McBride2006-01-07 22:49
In the Database portion of this web site, I've created a table for
members to enter the basic information about their boat. Will give
others in the group an idea who to direct questions, that's not to say
I wouldn't what the rest of you to answer.
Hopefully I've created the table correctly so you should be able to
enter your own data. Let me know if it doesn't work.

Looking at the data base, which is a great start! The hull numbers and years of the Cal 2-29 don't compute unless mfg from different locations maybe? The one in Long Beach CA is from 1977 hull number 277, where the pelican is 1976 hull #918.

Neil -
Thanks for getting a database set up.
I've taken the liberty of importing the Cal Hull List into the
database, so - most of the known Cals are listed. There are a number
of people who have come to the group over the last two months with
Cals that may not have been in the hull list.
There may also be some duplicates - I cleaned up most of the twenty
records that were out there - and then decided to leave several.
The questions/issues are -
For a Cal 2-27 (and other similarly modeled boats) is the model
entered as "2-27" or as "27-2"? The former is how the boat is
listed, the second makes it a little easier to id the boats by size
and is how the Cal Hull List was organized.

I may be wrong, but was always told that the hull # makes up the
last 3 digits of the full hull ID.
The full ID for the 1977 2-29 is CAB909660277

Tom
I was just looking at the database and was impressed to see over 300
entries - good work. I also cleaned up a couple of duplicates and
changed a few entries to read XX-2, as you said, easier to sort.
Hopefully more people will enter their boats to help identify and
find all those Cal's that are out there. I know of a few more but
will talk to the owners before listing them.

I've browsed some great stuff from different members in the Yahoo Photo
files. It's a lot of fun to see that I'm not the only insane Cal Hobbyist
out there.
I can't seem to make time to update my "Mariposa" web site. It's been so
long I have probably forgotten how, so to celebrate having "Mariposa" back
under sail again I've uploaded some images from 2005. Sort of the "Best"
and "Worst" of 2005 if I may jest.
I got a little carried away, but there's tons of photo room left with
Yahoo's new storage policy. Let's see some more from you guys.
Happy New Year to all. It's going to be a great year sailing.

PS -- I noticed that my buddy Dan Casey's Cal 9.2, "Air Time" didn't make it
onto the data base.

Actually John the last 4 numbers are the manufacture date. I would read your hull number
as 966 based on the number you show in your post.
