Jim, if your boat is after 1972, CAB number is stamped into the
starboard outside of the stern. If prior, you have to go scrounging to
find the presence of a hull number. Some were written inside the back
of the stern. I found one in the inside base of a mast. Sometines on
the bottom side of the drawers. What they did was to write hull numbers
on various parts so they could track the pieces of a boat, and make sure
they had everything together. There was no specific rule on showing
hull ID.
What are your sail numbers? Original sails came out with the hull
number on them. Betcha I could reconstruct the whole thing if you have
that data.
Cheers
Charlie

John, works like this:

There was an alternate system that used letters for months
starting in a
model year of around August or September, e.g., August 1982
would be
something like A83 at the end instead of month/year.

Cool! Any idea where I'd find this full ID number on a Cal 25? I don't
see it anywhere in my paperwork.
Thanks!

Hi Charlie,
Thanks. The sails aren't original. I didn't have a number put on the
main I bought (she didn't come with a main when I bought her). From my
paperwork, I know the hull # is 202 and I believe it was manufactured in
1967. I'm sure I've seen the number stamped somewhere -- perhaps on a
stamp just inside the cabin (on the wall that separates the cabin from
the cockpit). I'll find it again.
Thanks again!

One caution here. I would look first at the starboard-side_ inside_ of
the transom, as Charlie noted, seeking the liitle circle of unpainted
fiberglass over the wood core of the transom where they wrote the number
under the 'glass (if it's anything like the Cal 20). If that number and
the sail no. match, you've got it.
The caution is that on my other boat, the numbers pencilled on the
various wooden interior parts don't match the builder's plate number.
It's hull no. 13, always has been, but the pencilled numbers from
interior parts wander around on either side of that. Now maybe
standards at Jensen Marine were higher than they were in the Netherlands
in 1961, but I wouldn't count on it.

Jim, 1967 sounds late for Hull 202. Dunno. I am presently rebuilding
Hull 460, and am racing Hull 1657. Lots of differences in the
interiors. The older boats are almost hollow at the ends, and probably
lighter. There are also differences in ballast placement.
Two of my my four CALs have fictiious numbers on the titles. Old
numbers were hard to find if they even existed.
Cheers

Thanks, Charlie and Chris,
I'll crawl around and report whatever numbers I find. I may have to
update my entry in the database.
Thanks again,
