2-29 Fuel Tank removal and A30 engine mounts

sscot122006-03-14 23:28
Need to remove and replace the fuel tank in a 2-29 the engine is almost all the way out. Should come out the way the engine goes in? What a headache for a rusty tank. My engine mounts are broken in back McMaster has some mounts I could try but front mounts are in poor shape and was thinking about changing to some off the shelf mount. Soft mount like yanmar ect.. thanks scott 2-29

On my 34 III, I replacd the engine mounts with Bushings, Inc. as they were the original for the Westerbeke 30 I have. They proved to be very good. The problem I had was getting the old mounts off the stringers as the bolts were not stainless (and lifting the engine as there is no room!). Four of them broke off about an inch within the stringer....That was fun! I have some pictures of the removal process and repair of the stringer if you would care to see. Hello Group and Swedish Thanks The Engine I have is a single cylinder it thumps the engine is out in the large space in front of the compartment. The 30hp westbeke is smooth runner. 4cyl? The old mounts are off and the Faryman use a soft mount type on the front. I know there are other Farymans out there the yellow beast I was hoping for some help in that regard. thanks Scott Swedish <Sv… [at] optonline.net> wrote: On my 34 III, I replacd the engine mounts with Bushings, Inc. as they were the original for the Westerbeke 30 I have. Have you contacted PRP for mounts? If they don't have OEM, they should have compatible. http://prp-inc.com/ --- In Ca… [at] yahoogroups.com, scott <sscot12@...> wrote: > > Hello > Group and Swedish > Thanks > The Engine I have is a single cylinder it thumps the engine is out in the large space in > front of the compartment. Greg, I'd be interested in seeing your pictures of the stringer repair. The engine installation on my boat is shoddy and needs to be redone someday. I have the same problem....diesel fuel tank that leaks somewhere near top and on the side where it can not be accessed. Is it easier to remove the engine to replace the tank or cutting it out with a sawzall or circular metal blade? Then replace with a tank that will fit through the available space. Additionally, what is the tank material of choice? Your comments are appreciated. I had an auxiliary fuel tank in the bilge that was not used and was actually illegal since fuel fill lines must be on deck. I couldn't get it out and cut it up with a sawzall. I'd think it could work with a standard fuel tank as long as you could get the new one in without removing the engine. I just expanded the size of the starboard access port with a jigsaw and then pulled the tank out through there. The Tempo 18 gallon tank I put back in went in much easier than the old one came out. thanks for the input. everyone The tanks is out now.The clean up will be bad but the engine is out of the way. Plan to use the same tank tempo 18 . Also will beef up the bulkheads near the hatch and expoxy seal the engine area. I have used two bottles of simple greeen. The support on the bottom was very thin. It will be 3/4 now. Engine mounts for rear part will come from Mc master the front will be repaired and if the engine runs like a top new yanmar type mounts for it needs the soft mount to asborb the vibration.
