Mine has a white painted disk that I'm under the impression it's steel or aluminum. Not sure at all. One could use Starboard easily -- careful use of a bandsaw and hole saw could whip one out in under an hour. When I overhauled my rudder a couple of years back, there were two shims (like large washers) at the bottom and top of the rudder post -- next to the rudder blade and between the tiller cap and the rudder bushing. They were made from what seemed to be a phenolic material. For replacement, I went to my favorite online industrial supply, mcmaster.com and ordered to PTFE (Teflon) steam pipe seals of the appropriate outside diameter and cut the ID with a really big steel washer and x-acto knife. Looks and works very well. Harold
