Re: 2-27 Rudder post question - may apply to other Cal's w/ tillers.
Mine has a white painted disk that I'm under the impression it's steel or
aluminum. Not sure at all. One could use Starboard easily -- careful use of
a bandsaw and hole saw could whip one out in under an hour.
When I overhauled my rudder a couple of years back, there were two shims
(like large washers) at the bottom and top of the rudder post -- next to the
rudder blade and between the tiller cap and the rudder bushing. They were
made from what seemed to be a phenolic material.
For replacement, I went to my favorite online industrial supply,
mcmaster.com and ordered to PTFE (Teflon) steam pipe seals of the
appropriate outside diameter and cut the ID with a really big steel washer
and x-acto knife.
Looks and works very well.
