Speaking of the Volvo fleet, they are here currently in Baltimore, and will be in Annapolis later this week for the Heritage Day celebration. On Sunday they will start the next leg of the race. Its usually been coordinated with the Bay Bridge Walk, so with good timing you can watch the start from above. I did so when Chessie was in it 8 years ago. This year we hope to watch with the Scouts from the decks of Kuan Yin.
We just decided to drop out of the Centennial Newport-Bermuda race because our current surveys were based on a sistership and Newport insists on an extensive new survey, complete with stability tests with gear removed and tanks empty. Its more money and work than we can devote right now, so we have elected to do the BOR again, Annapolis to Bermuda or more exactly, Eastport to St.Georges. A disappointment, but because the race is a week earlier and plane tickets and island reservations are already bought, we will have to spend the extra week in Bermuda. Will have plenty of time to hoist a few Dark & Stormies for the Spa Creek Gang.

Hi, Cal Listees --
There is a good article about George Griffith, one of the three
fathers of the Cal 40 (the other two being Bill Lapworth and Jack
Jensen) in the May-June issue of Lufflines, the online magazine of the
Los Angeles Yacht Club.
It is on page 3 of the .pdf file located at:
http://www.layc.org/lufflines/eMayJun06.pdf
The same issue also contains a nice memoir by Stan Honey, Cal 40
"Illusion" owner and current naviguesser of the Volvo Ocean RAcer ABN
AMRO One.
Returned, tanned and tired...
