Re: Fuel Prices
No changes planned here. The boat fueling is such an insignificant
percentage of the total cost that fuel dock prices could double or triple
without impacting our use. A gallon per hour or less burn rate means a
daysail costs about $5 for fuel.
Driving 90 miles each way to the boat is a bigger issue, but at $3 a gallon,
that's still under $20 round trip, and well below the pain threshold for a
day or weekend of boating.
[soapbox on] I'm one of those nuts who believes that gasoline at $3 is
underpriced, and when adjusted for inflation, is what we were paying years
ago. I don't believe that we'll see serious efforts at conservation and
alternative energy efforts until the price for fossil fuel (and all its
byproducts, including plastics and fertilizer and most electricity) reach
painful levels, and thus providing significant financial incentives. My
biggest regret is that our nation's workforce is almost totally dependent on
private transport, and thus higher gasoline prices become one of the most
regressive forms of taxation I can imagine. TANSTAAFL! [soapbox off]
