Maiden Voyage T-2...YAY!

So today the wind was gusting upwards of 30 knots in the Miles River (off of the Chesapeake Bay) and we decided to take the Cal out to see what she could do. It actually was her maiden voyage, gunky barnacled bottom and all, having not been moved from her slip in years. If anyone has seen the new Pirates Of the Carribean, her bottom looks like the "Flying Dutchman"! With a reefed jib and no main we made about 6 knots. My husband was very impressed even in comparaison to our 6-metre. She surged into the gusts and really wanted to go faster it seemed. Kamikaze Captain had her rail almost in the water. Annoyed First Mate bitched. We ran the Jolly Roger up the halyard and celebrated. Looks like we have some standing rigging to tighten and to replace some cruddy lines. At least I know she sails nice enough that it's worth putting some sweat equity into the interior cabin re-painting ;) -Tracey 1974 Cal T2

we've been luck this year but have racked up a collection of 1st places, plus a couple others, this year. they sail great, better when the wind pipes up and the hot boats are on their ears.
