Chris, the salutation should have been "Listoids and Listettes". Just
enforcing a little list discipline and decorum.
I was wondering. Is the main sheet double block on your boom a
side-by-side, or an over-under?
Cheers
Charlie

Listoids:
This is a Cal 20 question. The standard mainsheet arrangement has two
blocks, one on either side of the cockpit aft. The mainsheet goes up to
the boom end block and over, down to the other side, and up and back
again. The blocks are on swivels.
Somehow, my sheet gets twisted, and as I come about, one block swivels
so the two parts of the mainsheet twist around each other. This is a
fairly high-friction sheet arrangement to start with, and when two
passing parts of the line twist around each other, it's really sticky.
I keep un-reeving the sheet and un-twisting the sheet, and it keeps
twisting again.
At first, I thought it was because I was coiling the sheet when moored.
Now I figure-8 the bitter end of the sheet but it still ends up twisted.
I'm using double-braid, Sta-Set as I recall.
What's the curse here?

Back from vacation here, catching up on e-mails. I'll be careful about
etiquette henceforth, knowing what tender sensibilities are held by our
listeroos.
My boom block is side-by-side, and old one with the phenolic-and-linen
cheeks and sheaves (what was that stuff called?). Would an over-under
cure the malady? It's one of those little annoyances, having to stand
up and push the boom out.

Ah, yes, Chris. I had the opportunity to be aboard the HMS Victory in
Portsmouth, England in late June. She had blocks of very similar
composition. :~] As a step into the 21st century, may I recommend
the super-carbo-block-delrin-ball-bearing MFXL 9000.
Seriously for a moment, I believe an over-under block on the boom will
relieve the twisting. Does a better job of keeping the forces in line.
Cheers
Charlie

Geez, another upgrade for the Cal 20. I had to buy a new jib halyard 3
years ago; will these expenses never stop?
