RE: [Cal_Boats] FW: [cal] Repowering My Cal 2-27
Hi, Mike. For displacement (not planing like a Donzi) hulls, the hull speed is 1.3 times the square root of the water line. In your case, about 6.3 knots, I think. It will go faster, but effort is expended raising the boat out of its own bow wave. Once you get near 9-10 knots in heavy weather and surfing down waves, she will get squirrely in her handling.
Also, as far as engines go, have to consider maintaining speed in sloppy water. I'm thinking 10-15 horses is good for a CAL 28.
Hope This Helps
Charlie

Hello all!
As a new owner of a 28 Cal with no motor and my background with boats is primarily with jet boats and powerfull motors. Here is my question how fast can a 28 Cal hull go? I'm not looking for manufacturer spec
Have a wonderfull day
