Thanks & Free boats

Hi Cal Pals, Thank you for your kind words re: my apology. You are good friends and we have met several of you over the years. There is always room at my dock for another Cal boat and room in our guest house for Cal boat owners. Free Boats: Since our recent hurricanes we have had many damaged boats auctioned and bought by "Starry Eyed Dreamers" who really did not have a clue about restoring boats. Some of these boats have been repaired, look good and are being enjoyed by their new owners. Others have been abandoned in local boatyards, then they stopped paying yard fees, so have had liens attached and the boat yards own them. Some have been re-sold, others have just festered and rotted. I have salvaged a few, fixed them and sold them. Others I have cut up and hauled to the dump after removing any good gear, like engines, cushions, plumbing, spars, etc. This has been hard work but fairly lucrative. I am getting tired - rather sail my Cal 25 and have a few Sam Adams. I have four boats available for FREE! They must be floated, hauled off or disposed of by 1 Sept. 2006. I gave a Pearson 36 and a O'Day 23 away yesterday, both repairable, NADA average retail about $25K. I know many of you are GU, so you may not be interested, but the price is right $0.00 Catalina 27, no spars, hull damage, A4 30' something, no spars, minor hull damage 46' older sloop, fiberglass, spars are fine, severe hull damage, lots of old bronze hardware, Perkins 4-108 37'Chris, older wooden power boat, above the waterline hull damage, one Chrysler 318, one missing, lots of good older hardware and a bunch of mahogany I am sorry but I do not have time to take photos. I have posted a sign on my shop door -No new work accepted until October 1. I am on overload, but if you call 850-572-1225 and are REALLY interested I can be hired to take photos, my shop rate is $75 hourly Tom and Bobbie Vandiver, Cal 46 & 25, homeported pensacola, FL

I grabbed some old-boat mahogany from the yard's dumpster once, and it was just lovely stuff--fine-grained, deep red. Even little pieces can be put to use in many projects. Anybody who's near Tom might want to think about that. Chris Campbell

I agree with Chris. It hurts me to cut up a potential good boat, particularly an old wooden classic. But, I have a deadline. It must be gone by 1 Sept. Com'n somebody? Price is right and you can stay at our guest house and look out at our pretty Cal boats.
