Weekend Races, CCCCC invitation, Outlaw Regatta, was Re: Cal signed plans (general- Rog)
As regards the Cal 31, it was finally sold to an avid sailor last year, and I saw him tooling around the Bay last summer, single handing and wringing lots of speed out of the boat. Haven't seen the boat out, tho, lately. Wonder why?
Speaking of Per, what ever happened to our bi annual (twice a year, not once every two years like the Trans-pac) CCCCCCC extravaganza on Catalina at Howlands Landing courtesy our famous Los Angeles Yacht Club member and his Cal 40 Radient?
I had a busy weekend, with a second place in the Friday evening "Sundowner" series out of Del Rey YC. eeking out second place by seven seconds corrected over a Cal 25. Would you believe we got creamed by a Columbia 22, very well prepared and well sailed by a single hander?
Sunday Eric my able bodied first mate, and I copped first place, non-spin, in the Jennifer Diamond Charity Regatta. It was an inverted start and I think my new down wind tactics payed off...heating it up by jibing away from dead down wind with the jib whisker pole pulled back so it would catch wind laminar flow style like spinnaker racers do.
I think it's passed due time for my Main sail. I think 44 years is probably enough for one sail...or...should I recut it? My genoa is an eight year old mylar sail off a champion Santana 20, that I picked up last year for $100, also quite well worn and full of transparent duct tape (duck tape?) patches. Passed due also is a haul out, last time was 1997 when I bought her, and now the bottome is red Trinidad with some of the earlier blue bottom paint showing thru.
Cheers.

PS:
What about a CCCC Ron dez voos the weekend of Sept 2nd? I'll be doing the MdR to Los Alamitos "Outlaw Regatta" and plan to sail out to Catalina on our way back the following day. The Outlaw is a grand down wind race...and a hoot screaming through Hurricane Gulch...my favorite of the year.. and the race ends at Los Alamitos YC and a tremendous BBQ feed and dancing till late. Enter the race. Go to SMWYC website and enter on line. Just do it. You'll be glad you did. Then we can join up at Catalina on Sunday eve and sail back Labor Day.
