REmoving/replacing sail numbers

Listeroids: I bought a nice used mainsail this summer. It's got the wrong sail numbers. The material peels off quite readily, but there's a yellow glue residue left. I seem to recall that acetone will remove it without affecting the Dacron. but figured it would be wise to ask first. And then there's the problem of the Cal 20 logo (Big "C" with 20 inside) that's peeling off voluntarily, to my dismay. What do I use to re-glue it? How about contact cement (Pliobond, etc.)? And if I want new numbers, is there a source for big self-stick numerals? Chris Campbell

In my old sail maker days we used MEK to remove the glue. Towel underneath, gloves, and a great high from the fumes, followed by a headache and destroyed internal organs.... As for new Numbers, your local sail maker, or maybe Sailrite has them... or the material to make them. Chris, I use a product called Goo Gone it works pretty good and does not leave a white residue like MEK. I have no experience with removing adhesives from Dacron, but I am very impressed with the 3M Adhesive Remover stuff at WM after using it around the store and on my girlfriends new BMW dashboard (she doesn't know about that and never will since she is not a listette). It hasn't hurt any surfaces so far, and is pretty amazing. John Dawson ps. Scott, still curious about the race dates and if you found crew.
