Deck Step Mast

One thing I have never done is remove the mast off of a deck stepped boat. I have a CAL 30, 1966 hull 55. Is there any sort of fastener or internal mountant that the mast sits on? I know there is wire runs for the spreader lights and mast light. I assume that there is some amount of slack or a terminal block inside the mast that allows the mast to laid down.
