Welcome to the list Ken. There are many knowledgeable CAL folks here who are
glad to share information. I am sure if you have any specific questions, an
answer will be forthcoming.
I have yet to visit King Harbor, but plan to do the "Santa Barbara to King
Harbor" race next year. This years attempt was foiled by my sister's wedding. A
group of us sail the Channel Islands (mainly Santa Cruz) often Perhaps we
will see ya out there.

appreciate the remarks Danial. If you do make it down to King Harbor, let me know in advance and we'll try to hook up... Such as yourself, I haven't made it up to the channels yet, but have been seriously considering the trip next summer, and visit the northern islands and a bit of the mainland... we'll stay in touch.

Ken,
Since Daniel is my Dock-Mate, Good Friend, Cal Buddy, and Worthy adversary
all in one, I will do the Santa Barbara to King Harbor Race next year as
well. We will probably be the only 30 (+/-) footers in the class, so I need
him to go and give me a boat-for-boat race of it (though he owes me some
time.)
So I look forward to meeting you as well, and would love to meet you an hour
or so sooner than Daniel does..... Yar

P.S.
David - Can you get me on the list to get a race notice? May as well have
some target date to get this old girl out and kick some Cal butt. Hehehe.
Maybe I'll rename her, "Lapworth's Revenge." I forget who it is that has
Lapworth Camel, which of all of the names I've run across is one of the most
original. Anyway, I digress, please try to get e on the list for a race
notice.
Thanks.

Rog,
I guess it's always the first Friday of August, as near as I can tell. It's
Fiesta Week in Santa Barbara, a great time to be out of town.
That would be awesome. I'd bet we could put together another Cal List
All-Star crew for your effort and maybe talk a couple of our other Channel
Island Cal boats into entering.
Dan and I have talked about heading over to Catalina Island following the
race and take the long way home.

S-B to K-H 2007 the Ultimate Cal Reunion (Wilkie and Dan)
Rog Jones2006-08-26 06:33 UTC
Okay, David. It's a date. We have a whole, entire year to get this on the
books.
We need some SF Bay boats as well, and some from Santa Cruz and Monterrey
and Newport Beach and maybe even from, say, Kings Harbor and LA. What the
heck, let's open this up the to the entire left coast and the inland lakes
(hey, Reggie?). Maybe we can even get dEmO to come down from Portland. I'd
be wiling to help him ferry his much modified 9.2 on its bottom, or on my
trailer. It might be too hard for an old guy like Timm to sail down, though.
He's getting up in years (and miles). Hehehe. We might even get Matt Farrell
to join in. I'd like to ask Charlie Husar right now to crew with us. Oh
yeah, and Kevin Farrell - I know that he misses Crackerjack. I'll probably
also ask Steve Seals to come along. He's usually up to this kind of
goofiness. Who are you going to invite? My crew will be treated to a fine
1969 Firestone cabernet and a great dinner of succulent beef stew. And of
course, on arrival, a winners' surprise champagne. Bill used to say it was
an embarrassingly fast boat. He was right. The 2-30 is just, flat-out fast.
This will be the Bill Lapworth/Jack Jensen Appreciation Race. And, as
always, I will supply the trophy for the corrected time Cal winner.
It's time for us Cals to get out and strut our stuff!
Let's start it now and get as many Cals as we can to do this race.
I can promise you right now that St. Lori's Comet will be there. And
assuming I'm still alive (after the way former Jensen employees are dying
off, lately) I hope to make it myself. St. Lori, Macaroni (my personal dog)
and I have voted and we are definitely determined to do this race. BE
AFRAID. BE VERY AFRAID!
So let's see who else might get in play.
Great fun!

Okay, Reggie, you did it once, you can do it again.
Next year. August 3-5. Starts in Santa Barbara. I will supply the Lapworth
Appreciation Trophy for that race. The trophy, however, will travel from
coast to coast to inland, cycling every three years. More on that later.
You gonna bring your own toys or do you want to sail on somebody else's?
Hehehe. I still have nightmares about you stepping that mast of yours with

Just load up the boat and get started. You can pick up e-mail along the way
and guide you to every race venue in-between. If you haven't seen a date
yet, it's August 3-4, 2007. Catalina Island, Santa Barbara Island, Santa
Cruz Island on the way home.

Another thing to consider when putting this together is a CAL Rendezvou at Catalina. I know a lot of the Mfr's such as Catalina, Hunter, Beneteau etc. have annual rendezvous. since these boats are not manufactured anymore, we could put one together as owner (this of course is assuming there isn't already one and I'm not aware!)

Okay, David. Its a date. We have a whole, entire year to get this on the books.
We need some SF Bay boats as well, and some from Santa Cruz and Monterrey and Newport Beach and maybe even from, say, Kings Harbor and LA. What the heck, lets open this up the to the entire left coast and the inland lakes (hey, Reggie?). Maybe we can even get dEmO to come down from Portland. Id be wiling to help him ferry his much modified 9.2 on its bottom, or on my trailer
It might be too hard for an old guy like Timm to sail down, though. Hes getting up in years (and miles). Hehehe. We might even get Matt Farrell to join in. Id like to ask Charlie Husar right now to crew with us. Oh yeah, and Kevin Farrell I know that he misses Crackerjack. Ill probably also ask Steve Seals to come along. Hes usually up to this kind of goofiness. Who are you going to invite? My crew will be treated to a fine 1969 Firestone cabernet and a great dinner of succulent beef stew. And of course, on arrival, a winners surprise champagne. Bill used to say it was an embarrassingly fast
boat. He was right. The 2-30 is just, flat-out fast. This will be the Bill Lapworth/Jack Jensen Appreciation Race. And, as always, I will supply the trophy for the corrected time Cal winner.
Its time for us Cals to get out and strut our stuff!
Lets start it now and get as many Cals as we can to do this race.
I can promise you right now that St. Loris Comet will be there. And assuming Im still alive (after the way former Jensen employees are dying off, lately) I hope to make it myself. St. Lori, Macaroni (my personal dog) and I have voted and we are definitely determined to do this race. BE AFRAID. BE VERY AFRAID!
So lets see who else might get in play
Great fun!

Rog,
I guess it's always the first Friday of August, as near as I can tell.

That would be the CCCCC (Cal Club Catalina Champagne Caper.) We've held a
number of very successful ones over the last 6 years. Last year the event
sort of fizzled out as many of the original attendees had moved on,
including Per Curtiss who more or less originated the event and was sort of
"in charge" of picking the right weekend.
