Project "MoonShadow"
cal34moonshadow2006-09-05 23:58
I wanted to thank all on the list that have helped us over the last two
and a half years with this project. We have finally got to enjoy "Moon
Shadow" under sail this season. Rather than sitting on the boat in my
back yard while saying "I can't wait to sail it like it's stolen"!
While the dreaming was fun, sailing her is sooo much better! We
purchased the boat as a repo with a seized engine for a great price. We
did nearly all of the work ourselves and gained a ton of experience
while doing so. We litterally gutted the inside and started over, with
the exception of a few of the smaller bulkheads. She is now a 2006 cal
3-34 with all the latest features. I just posted new photos today of
her sailing on the Chesapeake. Her shake down cruise was around the
penninsula of Delaware, Maryland and Virginia with a crew of 5, and she
did great. Thanks again to all and I hope to see you on the bay! Glen

Outstanding,
We too are in the process of rebuilding. Hurricane Ivan got our 77 Cal 3/34, hull #56, and we put her back in the water about a month ago after completing hull repairs (she got thrown on the dock pilings). We are re-rigging now, and hope to get rigging done this month. Cabin is a long work in progress, and yours gives us new inspiration.
I pray you get much enjoyment out of your Cal, they are great boats.

Congratulations! There is nothing better than that first sail after a hual out. After your extensive work, it must have even more sweet. But you forgot one thing, the CAL 34 emblem on the mainsail!
