You got it right! at $50,000 more, you get a boat with $150,000 of work into it, and get on the water 5 years faster than the $33,000 boat... How do I know? I was looking all over and nearly made an offer on one in Anacortes but it sold before we got there. Then I saw one listed in Vancouver with all new mechanicals for $105k. I thought "Who in the world would put that much money into a Cal 40 ?" Little did I know. On the other hand, I feel like I am rescuing one of these great old boats. Like having a 1935 Ford Roadster. We adopted a crippled bassett hound a few years ago. He was cheaper than the Cal 40 but he couldn't sail. Just howl.
