Joe,
Thank you for explaining this to John AND to the rest of us who have the
Farymann A-30. Fantastic information!

The Nanni transmission [ standard on the A30M ] uses 30 weight engine oil,
year round, capacity is .6 liter. Some A30M engines have a Hurth
transmission, most have the Nanni.
Valve clearance as printed in the manual is incorrect. It should be .015"
[ fifteen thousanths of an inch] cold, for both valves.
The A30M is rated 12hp @ 2500 rpm.
A 120*F thermostat is standard.
The engine does have an "excess fuel starting devise", to assit in cold
weather starting. It is manually operated by a lever, and automatically
disengages when the engine reaches a certain rpm.

You are welcome, Gregg. These are interesting engines, those old A30Ms. By the way, Beta Marine makes a direct replacement engine for this Farymann. It is a 2 cylinder fresh water cooled Kubota diesel of 13.5hp.

Joe,
Great to finally meet you at the Newport show! If I hadn't happened to
glance at your name tag when we were chatting I never would have known it was
you...and since I was wearing the Fischer Panda Generators tag instead of the
MMES one, you probably wouldn't have realized who I was either.
Hope to see you again soon, and thanks for all the knowledge you bring to
this group!
