Buck an Ear Days at Catalina, was:Re: Anchorage in Sta Bar Bar Ah.(Mike and Danial)
Thanks for replying about Yankee Yachts and SB moorings,
I talked to the owner yesterday about the mooring situation. It's east of the pier and only protected by virtue of the city being by a bay, ergo the stories I've heard about long time squatters being wershed shore. It is currently on a bruce anchor with chain so I'm not toooo worried, and since I have a minor race, and need to replenish my kitty, I'll be meeting the owner and taking possesion of said boat next weedend. Oh well, there goes my "Champion of Champions invitational regatta next weekend at King Harbor. Sacrafices must be made.
The internet says the Yankee 28 is a Peter Finch design, but I couldn't find anything on Google about him; the Yankee 30 is an S&S. I wonder, did Peter work for Stephen's group?
She features a fin keel but with a tapered curve in the leading edge wing tip, and a skeg hung spade rudder. It has a destroyer like bow and reverse chine stern. Nice lines and I think a PHRF in the 195 range, definately race-able. At the same time ruggedly build and blue water capable, not bad! As far as the headroom issue, almost anything has more than my Cal 24! I looked at the sail-net Yankee list and it seems pretty morbund, like the Cal list is in sailnet, currently. Well, I hope this works out. We'll need to put the exhaust system on the Atomic 30 and figure out how to pry open the filler cap, which is jammed shut from steel to aluminum corrosion.
I'm hoping to make it to Buck an ear's day at Catalina come Hell or Santana, Aarrgh, anyone going?
