I would suggest the Boy Scouts who often have sailing programs that might use the boat or will auction the boat off for a good cause. When I bought my boat, I donated all the gear that was not usable and thet sell it on eBay. Another suggestion; Cal 40s are far more valuable on the west coast but that is another investment. That's really sad, but Associated Marine Institutes is certainly quite the worthy cause! http://www.amikids.org Are you sure you can't follow your own "joke's" advice? ;-) Really, I just wish I could set up some kind of non-profit organisation in time to accept your donation myself! Anyhow, good luck with that - may the donation of your beloved get you the good tax rate. Have any of you donated a boat to charity? Are there specific charities that are better equipped to handle boat donations? Someone recommended an organization called the Associated Marine Institutes because they supposedly use the donated boats in their programs, which involve youth rehabilitation. Has anyone had first- hand experience with this organization? Wife says I have to get rid of the boat and stop paying storage & insurance. I thought boat/wife conflicts were myths, until I got married myself. Turns out she can't handle offshore sailing (we did give it a try). I used to joke about the following situation. Now, the joke's on me. Wife: "Honey, it's me or the boat!" Husband: "Do I at least get a goodbye kiss?" I advertised it but got: 2 ridiculously low offers. Boat is not flotsam. It floats, sails, motors, and is cruise equipped; 2 decent offers but these required me to finance the purchase. They were also intending to liveaboard, not sail; such an ignoble fate for such a boat to be relegated to houseboat status; 1 caller from Miami that stands out because the he seemed too intent on boat electronics and boat access. Since these larger Cal 40s are illiquid and we're now nearing the end of the tax year, donating it to a qualified 50% charity seems attractive. Combined with the rest of our charitable contributions, this may actually reduce our AGI to the next lower tax bracket, making it even more feasible. Does anyone have any other recommendations? What other options should I explore? I'm quite open, but my wife is not. Thanks. Roy Disney donated his multi million dollar Maxi 86 to Orange coast College where they supposedly have an active sailing program. They are in New Port Beach, Cal. How much do u want for the Cal 40?? Email me at fa… [at] hotmail.com..... I may have a buyer for u, if I dont buy her myself. Altho I just completely restored and refitted a Cal 34 that was given to me by my good friend Davis Pillsbury. Qwner of the now famous Ralphie. The Cal 40 that won the 05 transpac by nearly a day. Somebody should get her who will take good care, and not let her rot away as some of these donations do. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Good evening. > > > > Have any of you donated a boat to charity?
