RE: [Cal_Boats] RE: HIN nos. on Good Old Boats - Problem Registering
Bruce, make one up. That was what they did on my CAL 40 by previous
owner.
CAB800nn0668 ....00nn is the hull number. If 3 digits, then
0nnn
This fictitious boat was built in June of 1968. Why not.
My 1974 CAL 25 (Hull 1657 built in April 1974) is CAB516570474
Cheers
Charlie

Subject: [Cal_Boats] RE: HIN nos. on Good Old Boats - Problem
Registering
Another Cal 28 boat owner is still having problems trying to register
his boat. It seems some clerk is insisting that his 1968 Cal 28 has an
HIN, which ID system was created years later, according to what I read
online. Can anyone on this list shed any additional light and arm him
with facts to present to the clerk re: the absence of any HIN on a 1968
Cal 28? I just registered my 1965 Cal 28 last Friday in California with
just the hull number "82," which appears on boat the title and
registration.

Subject: HIN on cal28
Bruce,
Thanks for the assistance, but i'm not sure that's what we need. I've
been told through various sources and message boards that pre '72 there
were no HIN's, i'm referring to a 12 digit number stamped into the
transom and sometimes in the lazarette or elsewhere. DNR insists that
the boat has one and wants a tracing or rubbing of it, but because of
it's age i say it may not. At least none was found yet.
It's blowing my mind cause there's already an HIN on the title that was
signed over to me!!!
I am having someone else look for it because of the long drive for me to
get there, frankly i'm getting kinda nervous about the whole thing.
Is your boat titled and do they use a HIN or does it just use the "82"
shown in your photo?
thanks again,
Rick
