Randy My thoughts are with you. I lost my Dad on Sep 11 of last year. It is something you are never prepared for. This past year has brought back long lost memories that I hope will make me a better father to my kids. I am in solidarity with your loss and grieve From: Randall Alcorn <sa… [at] yahoo.com> To: Ca… [at] yahoogroups.com Sent: Tuesday, October 31, 2006 10:20:19 PM Subject: [Cal_Boats] Re: Island Trip Daniel, I lost my Dad this week. I am not going to make it this weekend. I could really go for one of your Margarittas now. I am sorry for your loss Randy. No matter how often we are told that death is a part of life, it is never easy to lose a loved one. The island trip is getting pretty slim at this point, but there are still some going. Daniel Casey "Air Time" Cal 9.2R #75 Santa Barbara, Ca.

Loss likewise experienced, last year. My condolences. An observation. Perhaps it is post loss, but I see more of my father in me all the time. Sometimes that is a mixed blessing. Usually it is a hand motion or a similar chuckle or a way of moving. Sometimes that is a mixed blessing. > > Usually it is a hand motion or a similar chuckle or a way of moving. > This is an interesting phenomenon. I was out sailing this summer and suddenly realized that I had become my father. I was wearing long pants over my shorts, a long sleeved shirt, a broad-brimmed hat, _and even his old cotton gloves_ that were still on the boat, to keep the sun off my hands. If I had seen somebody in that get-up a few years ago, I would have rolled my eyes and made some sort of disparaging comment. With Dad, I was more tolerant. But now I'm the one all duded up in full-coverage clothing. And I find myself checking the clock when I come about, and exclaiming over the boat's sprightly performance, and even being polite to the powerboaters (sometimes). I always just tolerated those behaviors in my younger days. I'm wearing one of his old shirts right now. Some of us are lucky that we acquired a bunch of good characteristics, and that the eccentric ones we inherited are mostly just eccentric and not dangerous or weird. Life does play interesting tricks on us. Chris Campbell

Where is everybody going to meet? Friday night? Saturday night? I am going to try and make it over Friday, but will not be there till after sunset. Sorry to hear about the loss. We can't make this one, either. Debbie's off in Portland, Oregon somewhere, and old English cousins decided to hop the pond to visit this weekend.
