Cal 34 Mark III--Pics & Info added
I've recently joined the Cal list & really appreciate the quality of
the postings. Lots of helpful stories, technical info and assistance.
In June of '06, I pulled up stakes in Denver & moved to Seattle. I
was no longer willing to dream about living on the water--it was
time to do it. I was fortunate that the first boat I looked at was a
Cal 34. It just seemed right. That one turned out to have already
been sold, but the next day I saw another in a magazine & drove to
Gig Harbor & bought her. After a week of survey & scramble to find a
slip, I sailed her across the sound to the ship canal near the
Ballard bridge in Seattle & moved my stuff on board.
Just to make me humble, the raw water pump chewed up its newly-
installed impeller going uphill in the Tacoma Narrows at dusk--my
first emergency on my first ride on my first (ocean) boat.
Thankfully, the previous owner bailed me out.
Now I'm living in a slip on Lake Union. After experiencing record
rain & cold, I'm looking for a boat with more space & more light,
but wanted to share Basic Mazecraft with the group. She's hard to
replace, having been immaculately maintained & updated by her 2
previous owners. It's as close to owning a new boat as I'll probably
ever come. I have a spreadsheet of all maintenance ever done on her.
Thanks for sharing the Cal experience.
