VICTURA (JFK's sailboat) is a 25' Wianno Senior. A still active racing class on Cape Cod to this day, although a few years ago there was a tragic fire at the Crosby Yacht Yard that destroyed a number of the fleet. Most owners had placed orders for new boats before the following Summer, a lot of the new boats are fiberglass hulls instead of the original wooden boats, but they are Seniors! The Wianno Senior does have a small cabin, but really.....is a daysailing racer and despite the longer length they seem almost smaller than a CAL 20. The was a Nat Herreshoff-designed class called the Herreshoff 15 or "E Boat", very similar to the Wianno Senior but without the cabin. The H-15 is an older design, but not much older! They were also built as the "Watch Hill 15", but with a marconi-rig. FDR's sailboat is in the Mystic Seaport museum. The card identifying it notes that FDR had the symptoms of polio when he woke up the next day, and that he spent his last healthy day sailing that boat. I found that immensely moving. If I were going to be significantly disabled (and his limitations were harder to compensate for back then), it would be nice to have spent my last good day sailing my boat with family or friends as opposed to sitting in the office, for example. And my Dad always laughed about JFK's boat. He had read during the years of his administration about the Prez sailing "the family yacht," and imagined some vast, costly vessel. Later he saw a photo and was surprised that it was about the same size as the boat we sailed. (I seem to recall that it was a Herreshoff or of similar pedigree, which does distinguish it).
