A shorter foot won't increase weather helm. It will just act like a small reef.

I just dropped off two Cal 40 spinnakers today. Traded for an anchor roller for the bow
(Don't tell my son.). I take junk in there and trade for other stuff. We got a new spinnaker
pole there last year. I had to shorten it a foot.

Any sailmaker will do it. They just sew the cars to the bolt rope.

Probably not. Mainsails are expensive.

Should actually reduce weather helm.

Giving away sails and adding big hunks of metal to the ends of the
boat? No problem. Sounds like a switch to the cruising track,
which relieves me of any wetsanding responsibility. Racing? I'm
down with OPB (Other Peoples' Boats)

He can start to worry when he sees a windlass on the bow. The Cal 40 will be in full cruise
mode most of the time. The spinnakers were Ullman rejects, not the newer ones.
I wonder where he is wet sanding ? I haven't seen any.
