Robin Lee Graham beat him by 35 years, or would have if not for the fact
that it was later determined that his Wife, Patty was aboard for a short
leg of the journey. Still, I'm sure that at least one (or more?) solo
sailors have made circumnavigations starting and ending on the West Coast
of the USA before this guy tried.

I think so. That's why I wonder about his preparation. These people who
want to be "first"
don't always prepare properly. I don't know his history but lots of
people have sailed around
Cape Horn. It is not that difficult if you are properly prepared but he
only made it to the
western side before being wiped out. That is not much of an
accomplishment. More of a
pratfall. If he had rounded, then got into trouble later in his voyage,
I'd be more impressed.
