mooring in Santa Barbara, not a good idea in my opinion
Gerald Sobel2007-01-17 02:24 UTC
I don't think investing in a mooring in Santa Barbara is such a good idea. You are quite a ways from any ramp etc. to acess your boat, your boat is essentially in the Pacific Ocean, and boats anchored there get washed ashore or into the pier every year, depite having stout achor chain. The rocking and rolling of the boat takes a heavy toll on the boat's rigging, and the sea birds will make a wreck of your boat. I had to back out of a deal to buy a Yankee 28 because, after 8 months on the hook, the boat was a wreck. And a gross, disgusting mess, with slime and half an inch of solidified bird guano all over the deck.

Frankly, that was a wise decision. If you get a chance to buy a Yankee 30, though, jump at it.
They are great little boats and built to last.

Alea iacta est! Mooring it is for 2007! I made the
downpayment last week!
RE bird guano - a tarp on deck will do wonders and
using the boat will too ; - )
