Mike,
I had a chance to buy a Yankee 30 a couple of months ago, a boat donated to charity, here in Marina del Rey. Before I had a chance to see her, a guy up in Seattle scooped her up even tho it meant trucking her back north. How does $3500 sound? One thing I don't like about the boat is that altho this bigger boat has more room in the v-berth than the 28, the other berths are undersized...for me at 6'4"...and the quarter berth and dinette berths are stacked one in front of the other.
Also saw a 26 Ranger in Oxnard, nice boat but needing much repair, but an owner's group said deck sag below mast is normal. The casting under the mast is crushed, needs new rigging, etc. But at under $2000 tempting.
Also saw a luxurious 27 Dufour, for $4000, bristol and turnkey. Shame the people who charter boats demand wheel steering; I don't get it!
After racing my boat in the January Del Rey yacht club opener, I decided I am most happy with my little boat for now. Fun to reach over and touch the water and watch the waves rush by. Like a go cart or a sports car, it feels like you're going faster than you are! Wouldn't mind some more high wind stability tho.
Jerry
