Morgan 461 Flying Pig towed back in to Marathon
Friends-
As we now have a Morgan 42 sloop, rather than our beloved Cal 2-29,
we also belong to the Yahoo Morgan list.
A live-aboard couple (Skip and Lydia, SV Flying Pig)on that list ran
into foul weather and ran aground off Key West this week, as they
were beginning their trek across the gulf stream. They were airlifted
by the Coast Guard to safety, and the Red Cross has given them
assistance, clothing voucher, and such, as they are now homeless, and
all they owned was on the boat. It was towed by Boat US into Keys
Boat Works in Marathon, having suffered structural damage.
There is a Morgan listee, Bryan, on "Onami", at the boatyard who is
offering assistance. The last update from Lydia, as related by her
spouse Skip advised, 'two chocks and part of the toe rail gone, a
leak in one of the impellors we just installed, which got pushed
inward, and of course, lots of stress cracks. Seems that there's
been some delamination of the bulkheads which will need to be re-
tabbed ... but there's hope.'
Skip also noted 'I have no illusions about the creativity of those
interested in freebies, and fully expect to find a great deal missing
when we get there'. Hope that didn't come to fruition. Once we know
what they need, I'll go through our boat and see if we can help.
For those who feel inclined, please remember Skip and Lydia in your
thoughts and prayers.
