Cal 25 pop-top hatch parts
Matt Beland2007-02-12 21:42 UTC
My 1971 Cal 25's main hatch is broken; all four of the plastic cars riding
the t-tracks for the aft-most portion of the hatch are destroyed. Anybody
know where I can find a usable replacement with a minimum of changes
required to the rest of the hatch? I admit I'm not a huge fan of the
pop-top configuration - but I don't dislike it enough to change it right
now.
Thanks,
Matt

Matt, the slider hatch parts are hard to come by and hard to make. Also
hard to find the right female track (was a continuous piece on each
side). There were a few made in Annapolis. We do request that when
anyone is cutting up a boat (happens now and then), that they save the
hatch parts.
I'm kind of tied up right now, but I can descirbe a method I used to
repair the sliders on a rebuild I did. Not trivial, but works well
enough. It uses metal c-track (I will have to find the model).

Charlie, let me know if you are available for the Ensenada out here. I'm making hotel
reservations. I know you said you thought there was a conflict. It's April 28. If you are tied
up, there are still some summer events, like Long Beach YC's Catalina Island Series.
I owe you.

Charlie, I, and probably several others on this board, could use your
advice and experience on repairing the slides on the Cal 25 hatch.
Mine still works, but you have to get it in just the right position
for it to slide. Thanks for your help.
