Losing My Slip Soon - Cal-25 For Sale

Al Waschka2007-02-15 23:34 UTC
I'm going to have to give her up and focus on my 33. I've been "planning" to get a lot of little things done before I put the boat up for sale, but I never got around to it. The person I'm renting a slip from has sold his Condo and I'm presuming I'll have to move. The boat is a 1974, HID#1693. It should be named "Timex" because it takes a lickin and keeps on tickin. Right now it needs the following, in no particular order: 1. Repair "piling rash" on deck/hull flange on port quarter and bow, totalling about 4'. 2. Install new rub rail (provided). 3. Repair pulled out aft port lifeline attachment. 4. Repair piling rash on port coaming over about 1'. 5. Reinstall forward cabin trim molding. 6. Repair/Replace companionway hatch boards. 7. Cleaning and polishing, interior and exterior. 8. Get motor (1975 Johnson long-shaft electric start recently (5-7 years?) rebuilt) tuned. 9. Repair hinge attachment points on pop top. 10. Serious bottom job - has been sitting for a while and has a significant barnacle overgrowth. 11. Find and repair some minor leaks. My best guess is they are because of the hinge problems on the pop top. What it doesn't need: 1. Sails - Main is old, but serviceable, not blown out, may need some re-stitching. 2 jibs are essentially unused, but have been on the boat a while. Southsails 150 and 110. 110 may have been out of the bag two or three times. 2. Standing rigging - Mast been removed, refurbished, completely re-wired, all lighting, wind indicator and VHF antenna replaced and re-wired. New standing rigging has never been tuned or loaded. 3. Interior (after cleaning) will be good. Cushions were recovered a few years back. Has a Kenyon built-in 2 burner alchohol stove with a lid. 4. Batteries are 1 year old. 5. A new dual three-stage 10 amp (total) battery charger is still in the box. The boat sails well (or at least it did the last time I sailed it which was a long time ago) but it does need some work. When I bought it, it was about 1 year old. We used it a lot for the first few years then a second round of children, work, etc. intervened and it has not seen much use for many years. I just couldn't bring myself to let it go because I was so enamored of the idea that we'd get back into using it. It has an "interesting" past, so if you are interested, e-mail me off-list and I will send you a complete report. I would hate to donate it or sell it for parts. I'd like to see someone whocould use it get their hands on it, but it will take someone who can do some work themselves. On the other hand, don't assume that this is the sugar-coated version and there's a lot more wrong with the boat. I've tried to be complete in listing the significant flaws and features. Boat is in Melbourne Harbor, Melbourne Florida, 32901. Thanks for the look, Al
