Nice offer... thanks Tom! Tell me... do you live on the Cal 46 and dink around on the Cal 25? If you do, that sounds wonderful! :) The best of both worlds I'd think. :) I've always liked the Cal 46! Every time I work on my engine, I think of all the room around the engine in the Cal 46. Yo, My dream since about age 10, 58 years ago, was to live on a sailboat with a kindred soul and roam at will. Bobbie and I have had Satori, our Cal 46, since 17 March 1982, retired in May 1988, roamed about since. Home ported in P'cola in 1992, still dream'n of more roam'n. Eight years of cruising our Cal 46 is more than most folks can even dream of...... Our Cal 25, "Bravura" AKA "Thanks Janet", is our day sailor, racer,(Gulf PHRF is 228) and sail trainer. On request we will teach sailing, Pro Bono, because like other addicts, we want to hook others. Life is gooooood on the bayou, 'cept when the hurrycane comes. Absolutely sounds like a wonderful life for sure! I've often thought about moving onto a larger boat and keeping the Cal 29 for day sailing. Sounds like you've done it and you're living the dream. It just sounds wonderful! As the years click on by we spend more and more time at the marina on the boat and less time at home. The grass at home gets long, but who's cares, I can't see it, because we're at the marina. :) Oh one of these days..... We don't have the hurricanes here, but we sure have a lot of gray days with rain. Though we do have some pretty darn nice sailing grounds here in Puget Sound. Gregg & Dannae, You guys are killing me with your idyllic sailing clips! I love Port Ludlow, especially the inner harbor. I love all of Puget Sound. Hi David, Eagle Harbor is a nice place too, except for the ferry wakes, as you know. ;-) That's great you've sailed the Puget Sound waters, as I've sailed over 30 years here and I've never experienced any sailing in So Cal and really wonder how it compares. One thing I bet is your waters are a lot warmer. Other than temp. I really don't know much about your sailing grounds and would love to learn more. As for your Channel Islands... do you have any good web sites suggestions? Channel Islands Cruising - Was: Re: [Cal_Boats] Video clip of my Cal 29 with my beautiful wife 54 years young!

Not to disappoint you guys too much but the water is pretty cold here in the Santa Barbara Channel, too - it is not quite how you picture Southern California. The nutrient rich water has the great advantage that there is tons of sealife - several different types of dolphins, porpoises and gray whales in winter, blue and humpback whales in summer - it is fantastic. The islands themselves have a fairly unique ecosystem since they were never connected to the mainland and a rich history from the Island Native Americans (Chumash) to modern day ranching history. Since the Channel Islands are a National Park you can get very good information from their website www.nps.org/chis Also try the National Marine Sanctuary website at www.cinms.nos.noaa.gov With regards to cruising I have found Brian Fagan's book "The Cruising Guide to Central and Southern California: Golden Gate to Ensenada, Mexico, Including the Offshore Islands" very inspiring and full of good information... I could spend several more hours raving about the Channel Islands ... ; - ) Sabine S/V "Night and Day" Cal 25 --- to… [at] aol.com wrote: > > Hi David, > > Eagle Harbor is a nice place too, except for the > ferry wakes, as you know. > ;-) > > That's great you've sailed the Puget Sound waters, > as I've sailed over 30 > years here and I've never experienced any sailing in > So Cal and really wonder > how it compares. Gregg, Do you ever get as far south as south Puget Sound? If so, send me an email. I would enjoy linking up with you. We really enjoy the cruising grounds south of the Narrows Bridge here. It is surprisingly uncrowded in the summer months, I guess everyone heads north. Lots of pleasant coves and anchorages down this way as well. We are planning on heading north about the 3rd week of July this year. Probably hang around the Gulf Islands and and San Juans. Plan to head back down this way the second week of August.
