Engine Survey (was: oil) [Joe deMers]

Joe (and anyone else who wants to chime in), I know someone who is looking at buying a used boat in Annapolis. It has a Westerbeke that was reportedly "recently rebuilt". It's not clear how long the boat has been on the hard; it could be just for the past winter, or it could be for a year and a half. I'm not familiar with diesels (Pentaquod has the Atomic 4, which I've learned to love). Can an "engine survey" be conducted while it's on the stands, or does that require a sea trial? If so, should we expect the surveyor to do this, or should we get a diesel mechanic to do the test/inspection? Does anyone have someone who they can recommend in the Annapolis area? Thanks, Alfred Poor 1969 Cal 29 #132, "Pentaquod"

I love my Westerbeke. When I bought my Aloha it had been on the hard 1 year. I did my own survey, but had well recommended diesel mechanic survey the engine, and also had an engine escrow to cover the one day delivery. td From: Ca… [at] yahoogroups.com [mailto:Ca… [at] yahoogroups.com]On Behalf Of Joe DeMers Sent: Tuesday, March 27, 2007 9:27 AM To: Ca… [at] yahoogroups.com Subject: Re: [Cal_Boats] Engine Survey (was: oil) [Joe deMers] From: Alfred <mailto:ap… [at] bellatlantic.net> Poor To: Cal_Boats@yahoogrou <mailto:Ca… [at] yahoogroups.com> ps.com Sent: Tuesday, March 27, 2007 9:00 AM Subject: [Cal_Boats] Engine Survey (was: oil) [Joe deMers] Joe (and anyone else who wants to chime in), I know someone who is looking at buying a used boat in Annapolis. A good mechanic is Rudi Schlesner of East Coast Diesel. His cell no. is 1-410-739-5596. I suspect that any good mechanic is very busy this time of year.
