Calsters, One of my sailing groups in Marina del Rey is going on an informal cruise to Catalina Isthmus on Easter weekend. The group is the Venture-MacGregor Fleet (VMF) but don't let that put you off, MacGregors are a small minority of the fleet now. We just signed up a Cal 25, Sea Dame, for membership and Tuesday Evening races starting in April. One buck a race, can you beat that? I have some fantastic photos of the last CCCCC two years ago, the one hardly anyone attended, now, if I only knew how to post them to the site? One photo is so choice I use it for my desktop. It's a dusk shot of Howland's Landing with a Cal 39 moored in the mid-ground. Another is us feeding raw London Broil to the Los Angeles Yacht Club's Mascot, an enormous Great Dane, who ditched his owner and doubled back to join our un-BBQ!! Jerry

One of my crew members 30 years ago had a Macgregor 25, or so. He took his wife to Emerald Cove for an Easter cruise and got caught there with a strong Santa Ana. They didn't get out fast enough (The Harbor patrol usually comes around in the night to warn everybody to leave) and rode it out on the mooring. After a few hours, the mooring dragged, their boat went on the rocks and they clung to a large rock for hours before they were rescued. Check the weather this time of year. Catalina is a lee shore, except for Cat Harbor, in a Santa Ana. They had surf rolling in at daylight and the Macgregor's outboard didn't have a chance to get them out of there. If the weather is good, a big winter storm in Utah is the indicator for a Santa Ana, you'll have a great time. We'll be there by Memorial Day. Mike Kennedy Conquest Cal 40 # 96
